Universal Exercise Unit / Spider Cage Training

2-Day Hands-On Course
Denver, CO
January 19–20, 2026

Why This Course Matters

This course is designed to help you:

  • Confidently assess which children are appropriate UEU candidates and which presentations call for caution or modification.
  • Design individualized UEU-based treatment plans that target strength, balance, coordination, sensory integration, and functional independence.
  • Set up and adjust the equipment safely and efficiently so your sessions flow smoothly instead of getting bogged down in logistics.
  • Integrate playful, evidence-informed activities that keep kids engaged while you drive meaningful change.

You’ll walk away with a clear framework—not just a list of exercises—so you can confidently apply UEU / Spider Cage techniques across a wide range of pediatric diagnoses.

what you'll learn:

Across two days, you’ll move from foundational understanding to confident practice and advanced treatment planning with the UEU / Spider Cage.

Understand the System

Identify all key components (frame, belts, bungees, pulleys, weights, accessories) and how they work together to support therapeutic goals.

Select the Right Clients and Keep Them Safe

  • Recognize common indications such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, motor delays, and neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Screen for contraindications including severe scoliosis, hip instability, significant osteoporosis, or uncontrolled seizures.
  • Implement clear safety protocols for harnessing, bungee tension, and monitoring throughout sessions.

Set Up UEU / Spider Cage Configurations With Purpose

  • Assemble and adjust the system for different ages, sizes, and functional levels.
  • Create partial weight-bearing and postural support setups tailored to specific movement goals.

Use the UEU to Drive Real Functional Change

Apply therapeutic progressions targeting:

  • Strength (e.g., quadruped, kneeling, standing transitions)
  • Balance and coordination (e.g., weight shifts, single-leg stance, dynamic tasks)
  • Sensory integration and vestibular processing (including prone “flying” and graded movement challenges)

Plan Complete Therapy Sessions

  • Build measurable goals around strength, range of motion, alignment, motor control, and function.
  • Progress or grade support and resistance over time.
  • Document outcomes and communicate progress clearly to families and teams.

How the Course Is Delivered

You’ll experience a mix of:

  • Focused teaching – concise presentations that connect theory, research, and real-world clinical decision-making.
  • Live demonstrations – instructors walk through setups, cueing, and progression options with children or volunteers.
  • Hands-on labs – you’ll assemble equipment, practice harness fitting and bungee configuration, and run simulated sessions in small groups with instructor feedback.
  • Case-based problem solving – you’ll design UEU treatment plans for children with conditions such as cerebral palsy and Down syndrome, then test and refine them in the cage.

This format keeps things practical, movement-rich, and highly relevant to day-to-day pediatric practice.

What’s Included

  • 16 contact hours of high-quality, experiential instruction
  • Hands-on practice with UEU/Spider Cage equipment throughout the entire course
